印度羽毛球公开赛始于1981年,30多年间均只是低星级赛事。自2007年起被世界羽联定为黄金大奖赛,2011年又跻身超级系列赛,等级不断跃升,逐渐引人重视。但近三年来,印度赛赛期皆与国羽的大赛备战安排冲突,因此国羽近几年都不派重兵参战。此站比赛之于国羽,几乎只是新人练手之地:在各种公开赛掠金如风的国羽,仅有2012年的李雪芮和2013年的刘小龙/邱子瀚在印度夺冠,当时的他们也并非国羽最倚仗的重臣。
