China’s welding health and safety work has been started since the founding of the People’s Republic. Since the late 1960s, a series of researches have been devoted to the research and development of low-dust and low-toxicity welding electrodes, as well as the nature, mechanism and influential factors of welding fume and achieved valuable results. In the area of health care, welding operations also have well-established medical theories on the respiratory, visual, auditory and nervous system effects. Moreover, in 1979, Welding Society organized the Eighth Professional Committee, which is today’s Welding Health and Safety Commission. The establishment of the 8th Committee has promoted the development of safety and health knowledge and has been devoted to improving the welding operation environment, reducing the occupational hazards in welding and ensuring the safety and health of staff.
