Sinomenine (hereinafter referred to as Sin) is an alkaloid extracted from the rhizomes of Sinmenium acutum (Thunb) var. cineveum (Diels) Renb et Wils. Early studies found that Sin has a significant antihypertensive effect, and it has recently been found that Sin has antiarrhythmic effects. In vitro experiments showed that Sin can reduce the atrial excitability, conductivity, self-discipline, and extend the effective refractory period. To further explore its antiarrhythmic mechanism, we observed the effects of Sin on intracellular action potential and mechanical contraction in isolated guinea pig papillary and left atrial muscle specimens.
