An off-axis double-feedback external cavity is designed to effectively improve the linewidth and beam quality of the laser diode array. A resonant cavity is formed between the blazed grating and the high reflector. By adjusting the tilt between the raster and the high mirror, a spatial mode can be selected for amplification in the resonator. A half-wave plate is inserted into the grating feedback branch in the outer cavity to control the amount of feedback light that is output from the grating feedback branch. Using this technique, the output linewidth of a laser diode array can be reduced to 0.15 nm at a current of 16 A and the beamwidth can be reduced to 283 mm.mrad. Due to the grating locking effect, the center wavelength changes little with temperature. At operating current 17A, the output laser power is 2.44 W and the slope efficiency is 0.5 W / A.
