In the early seventies I have witnessed North American talc industry as competitive today. There were several major talc producers at that time, but it seemed that all parties had their own markets. Both RD Van der Bildt’s products and International Talc Microbes are major products in ceramics, coatings and other related industries, especially in the eastern half of North America. The products of United Sierra Co. (now Cypress Industrial Minerals) are major players in the pulp and paper industry in North America. Engelhard’s products also make a difference in the black polypropylene and automotive repair industries. In the western United States, Pfizer’s talcum powder market in the paint market is very good, the company’s products in the Sert’s natural polypropylene has also found its sales. However, these producers are limited to the above market, horizontal market is not capable of operating.
