大约是1999年的冬天,我曾到郑州去参加过一个河南籍作家的长篇小说研讨会。说来惭愧,我到现在也没写出一部长篇,之所以能假公济私回故乡一游,完全是王鸿生兄和李洱的功劳。那时鸿生还没有来上海大学当教授,搞有很多注释的学院派批评,他正在中州文坛纵横捭阖,主持这个盛会。李洱作为东道主,也在里面忙碌。在筹备会议时,李洱建议把我列入邀请名单,为了证明我是河南人,他还特地找出一本刊登有我的简历的杂志,以示所言不虚。后来,在鸿生的支持下,我不仅顺利与会,还被聘为河南文学院
