苏柑在我省有近百年的栽培历史.五十年代闽北地区果树资源调查也记载了苏柑,六、七十年代则进一步开展了苏柑的利用研究,认为是福建一大特产.主产县尤溪,年产数万斤,零星种植的有南平、武平、漳平、建瓯、古田、永安等县.苏柑也叫酥柑,别名甚多,它是橙柚天然杂种,树冠高大,抗逆性强,丰产稳产,在柑桔类中如“鹤立鸡群”.但兼有橙、柚亲本特点,抗寒性较弱,小枝具短小针刺.苏柑的叶态、花序、花器、果实、种子,多数倾向于橙类,少数象柚类,一部分介于中间类型.
