Recovery of valuable components from the tailings The Soviet Union organized the processing of stockpiling tailings in the Mackay, Kaylaketi and Cantata workshops to recover barite concentrates. In Kansk, concentrators such as Kansaik, Kwaissi and Sarail are using flotation to recover non-ferrous metals, precious metals and barites from the tailings. Tailings should be reground before flotation to liberate valuable minerals and make them fresh. In 1970, the Balhash beneficiation plant reclaimed copper and molybdenum from the tailings sand using flotation, resharpening and beneficiation processes, recoveries of 3% and 5%, respectively, for the ore. The study indicates that sericite concentrate (32% alumina) can be obtained from tailings deposited at the plant using a cation collector (AHП-14).
