我县城关公社路庄大队,是个瘠薄地较多的植棉单位。历年来因为地薄棉棵小,密度偏稀,管理粗放,产量很低,常年单产皮棉只有四、五十斤。1974年他们在批林批孔运动的推动下,为了迅速改变棉花低产面貌,和县农林局技术员一起,在瘠薄地搞了四亩“万株棉”试验田。通过精心栽培管理,获得了亩产皮棉117斤的好收成,比在相同条件下,每亩5,600棵的亩产66斤增产77.2%,比1973年同一块地每亩5,000株单产皮棉57
