There are disagreements about whether children follow the B theory of constraint theory when interpreting pronouns, and the quantitative asymmetry defined by Elbourne (2005) also has different conclusions in various empirical studies. Quantitative asymmetry refers to the fact that children interpret the antecedent of pronouns in sentences as non-quantified words in violation of the B principle of constraint theory. When quantifying this antecedent, children will not interpret the principle B of violation of constraint theory. Some studies have improved experimental design methods and found that children did not quantify asymmetry when interpreting pronouns. Based on this disagreement, this article attempts to summarize the research results in this area, in order to enlighten the later research.
