Reuters BERLIN, December 17, 2014 - Germany plans to establish a special fund to safeguard the long-term decommissioning of nuclear power plants and demand that nuclear power companies deposit 17 billion euros ($ 21.2 billion) in the fund. As the decommissioning funds reserved by the nuclear power companies may be lost due to bankruptcy or misappropriation, Germany fears that taxpayers will be forced to pay part of their bills of decommissioning at the NPP. The German media quoted an internal document from the relevant government authorities saying that power companies should pay 17 billion euros for long-term decommissioning of nuclear power plants and 19 billion euros for power plant demolition and waste storage.
