Objective To investigate the role of intracranial pressure monitoring in the treatment of patients with acute severe craniocerebral injury. Methods Forty-one patients with severe craniocerebral injury admitted from June 2014 to May 2015 in Qianjiang Central Hospital were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent dynamic intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring. The correlation between intracranial pressure classification and prognosis was analyzed. Results Eleven patients with normal intracranial pressure had mild increase in 14 patients, moderate increase in 9 patients and severe increase in 7 patients. The intracranial pressure classification was positively correlated with the prognosis (r_s = 0.53, P <0.01). Conclusion Intracranial pressure monitoring plays an important role in the prognosis of patients with acute severe craniocerebral injury and can guide the clinical treatment.
