Northeast black soil, is China’s most fertile soil, the most suitable for cultivation of a piece of land. Covering an area of about 1 million square kilometers, it covers a part of the black soil zone in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia, providing 14% of the country’s food, 40% of the soybean and 50% of the corn. However, what has now been described as “black soil where rooted chopsticks can germinate” is undergoing alarming losses. According to statistics, the total area of soil erosion in the black soil areas in Northeast China is 275,900 square kilometers, accounting for 26.79% of the total land area of black soil. At the same time, the black soil from the initial nearly 100 cm thick to the present mostly only 20 to 30 cm, an average of 0.7 to 1.0 cm per year thinning.
