This is a special issue for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Sichuanlndustrial lnstitute of Antibiotics (SIlA) and the 10th of “ Chinese Journal ofAntibiotics”. Being formerly the Antibiotic Department of Shanghai lnstitute of Pharmaccu-tical Industry, SIIA was moved to Chengdu and founded on Nov. 11th., 1965.It is now the only lndustrial institute for antibiotics in China. There are about 500 staffs altogether, with more than 250 researchers. Theystudy antibiotics as well as other metabolites from microorganisms, and lay stresson the development of screening and producing technology of new antimicrobial andantitumor antibiotics. They have discovered Rifamycin-producing micromonospora,Aclacinomycin B-producing streptomyces and many other microorganisms for anti-
