西昆仑西段布伦口-赞坎一带相继发现多个铁矿床,形成一条呈带状间断分布的铁矿带。对比该成矿带不同类型铁矿床地质特征、赋矿地层及构造背景,结合铁矿体赋矿围岩成岩、成矿时代精确定年数据,认为布伦口-赞坎一带磁铁矿型铁矿床和菱铁矿型铁矿床形成时代为早古生代,二者时空上具较好相关性。该带经原始沉积期、区域变质改造期和热液叠加改造期3个阶段,属早古生代海相沉积变质型铁矿成矿系列,具有相近的矿床成因和成矿演化史,受成矿环境和控矿条件控制,形成不同类型铁矿床。
