(一)1954年,我们公社在岱字棉15号的棉田里发现一个单株(图1),其果枝特短,只有1寸左右长,每个果枝着生4～5个铃,结铃性很强,蕾铃枯萎也不脱落,无木枝和赘芽,早熟,纤维长度较好,但铃小,单铃籽棉重只有2克,衣分低,只有27～28％。由于果枝特短,所以称它为短果枝棉。当时推广的岱字棉15号(图2)有良好的丰产性能,惟株型松散,结铃性及成熟期尚不够理想。岱字棉与短果枝棉各有所长,各有所短,如果能把两者的优良性状结合起来,
