In the poetry of the contemporary American Indian poet Jo Hahachi, identity construction is achieved through the connection with land, mythology, and memory. People come from land and return to the land. Land has life, emotion, identity and wisdom, witnessing history and providing spiritual comfort. The characters in mythology often have the mysterious power, the soul, the common view of the world, the human nature, the beliefs and customs, the concepts of justice and evil. Under the impact of modern civilization, it was naturally destroyed and mutilated, and Haji tried to recreate this integrity by opening up the connection between the mythological space and the everyday world. Memory is a link between history, culture and identity; through memory and storytelling, Haggard shapes her Indian identity while leaving her personal value and meaning in this world.
