2011年初,龚琳娜以一首“听一万遍也学不会”的《忐忑》一举成名,并获得美国格莱美最佳音乐奖,及欧洲“聆听世界音乐”最佳演唱奖。在2月17日湖南卫视举办的元宵晚会上,她演唱的福建民歌《丢丢铜》,再次受到亿万观众的热捧。其实很多人还不知道这两首十分独特的曲子,均出自龚琳娜的德国老公之手,这位洋帅哥同样是位充满传奇色彩的人物。他俩是怎样走到一起的?
音乐为媒
红润的脸庞,洒脱的短发,粲然一笑露出洁白整齐的牙齿,龚琳娜是位亲切可人的女性。早在2000年她参加央视第九届全国青年歌手大奖赛,以一曲《斑竹泪》拿下了民族唱法的银奖。
十年之后,她唱的《忐忑》视频在网上蓦然走红。龚琳娜做梦都没想到,丈夫为她写的这首无词之曲,竟会引发包括“天后”王菲在内的无数网友和名人的翻唱狂潮。
今年36岁的龚琳娜出生在贵阳,父亲是一名医生,母亲在事业单位工作,下面还有一个弟弟。她自幼酷爱音乐,5岁起就学会了苗族飞歌、侗族大歌等,并登台演出。12岁时龚琳娜第一次出国,给法国人唱贵州民歌。16岁上中国音乐学院附中,三年后上中国音乐学院,师从邹文琴,学习民族声乐。1999年,龚琳娜顶着“民歌状元”的光环从中国音乐学院毕业。一年后,她在“青歌赛”中脱颖而出。
2002年3月,一个中文名字叫老锣的德国音乐人在北京一个剧场演出。龚琳娜和女伴刚好来看这场演出。老锣安静地坐在台上,正弹奏着一把巴伐利亚筝。虽然长相一般,但是他的表情和动作充满了艺术气息。他沉醉在自己弹奏的琴声里,全然忘了台下的观众。龚琳娜觉得这人很特别,便决定去后台拜访。
没想到对方的汉语很棒,几次接触后,老锣高兴地对龚琳娜说,你很有实力,我们一起玩音乐吧!当时她就想,音乐是个很严肃的东西,怎么能玩呢?老锣把琴打开说,你就随便唱吧。那天她先扯着嗓子唱了一首苗歌。想唱高的唱高的,想唱低的唱低的,那是她第一次即兴音乐,没想到非常棒。真是畅快淋漓,龚琳娜觉得这些歌是从内心流淌出来的,正是自己追求的。
“学了这么多年音乐,过去一直是在唱老师为我塑造的一种音色,录音的时候有老师监棚并告诉我该怎么唱。”而自己的声音到底是什么样的?龚琳娜并不知道。
听完龚琳娜的歌,老锣由衷地赞叹:“刚才的你,就像这不加糖的咖啡,原汁原味不带任何杂质。你知道吗?这种纯天然的嗓音最迷人!”也就是说,老锣完全否定了她从前的演唱路子。
从那时起,龚琳娜开始反思声乐表演和教育“千人一声,千人一面”的问题。因为歌手都把“科学的声音”、“美丽的外表”作为第一追求,却忽略了音乐本身。歌手参加比赛,总要选择难度大的、能够显示一种嗓音技巧的作品,渐渐地忽略作品鲜活的生命力和艺术内涵。
到德国森林里唱歌
为了汲取民族音乐的营养,体验原生态的民族文化,这年夏天,龚琳娜回到贵州家乡,在苗族地区采风。她住在苗人的家里,半夜听到屋外奇异的叫声,同屋的男人们告诉她,是姑娘们在召唤了。龚琳娜也一起跟了去。
她终究得以窥见他们是怎样“用音乐谈恋爱”的:小伙子们吹着树叶,姑娘们则唱着情歌。在这里老太太早晨光着脚上山喂猪时也会高歌,下午放学的孩子们也会跟龚琳娜对歌,到了晚饭时间,又有饮酒歌。她不由得感叹:“对苗家人来说,唱歌就是生活,不是给别人表演。”
2009年9月,老锣盛情邀请龚琳娜参加德国的音乐节,龚琳娜正好有空就去了。在音乐节的现场,当主持人念到老锣的名字时,龚琳娜才知道,原来他是整个音乐节的主席!龚琳娜对老锣的崇拜之情油然而生。
在德国音乐节上,作为远道而来的中国客人,受老锣的邀请,龚琳娜盛情难却高歌了一曲,表现得出奇的完美。老锣被龚琳娜的音色和气场惊动了。于是德国音乐节闭幕后,老锣和龚琳娜一起回到中国。在北京,他和他的朋友,还有龚琳娜和她的两个朋友组建了一个乐队,按照中国的“金、木、水、火、土”取名“五行”乐队。组建乐队后,老锣开始专门为龚琳娜写歌,两人的首次合作曲目是《走生命的路》。
其实老锣并非等闲之辈,他比龚琳娜大9岁,10岁开始学习巴伐利亚筝,1988年考入柏林音乐学院学习作曲,视音乐如生命。一次老锣无意间听到中国乐器古琴的演奏,便对之产生了浓厚的兴趣,于1993年到中国学习古琴。他认为发出那细小琴音的古琴是中国古代乐器的精髓。
1997年,他两次去西藏,录制了唱片《西藏民歌》,同年在英国出版。2000年,德国每年一次最大的世界音乐比赛邀请了他担任评委会主席至今。而且,老锣还举办了很多场伴奏及独奏音乐会。他长期往返于中德之间,对中国文化有非常深刻的理解。
2002年冬天,“五行”乐队在德国巡回音乐会上产生巨大反响,龚琳娜和老锣的关系也发生了质的飞跃。虽然龚琳娜经常参加国际巡回演出,但是她的德语非常糟糕,跟德国人根本无法交流。老锣就耐心地给她当翻译,还教她简单的德语发音。老锣指着自己的嘴型,“看,认真看我的嘴型,这样发音就标准了。”龚琳娜目不转睛盯着他,完全没听到他在讲些什么。老锣也停下来,他们四目对视,看着看着就动心了。
后来老锣说:“我们在一起吧,虽然我没有太多的钱,但是我的内心很富有,可以让你跟我一起快乐。”龚琳娜感动得语无伦次,打心底认定了这个男人。
2004年,龚琳娜和老锣在她的家乡贵州举行了婚礼,老锣的父母也特地从慕尼黑赶来见证儿子的婚礼。婚礼当天,老锣的30位欧洲朋友前来道贺,将西方的浪漫元素和传统的中国婚礼相结合,整个氛围相当热闹。根据当地的苗家习俗,女子在出嫁的时候都会哭嫁,还专门请了师傅吹唢呐。龚琳娜也大哭起来,将现场的朋友弄得不知所措。在大家的祝福声中,老锣兴奋地抱起她走进洞房。
2005年,龚琳娜跟随老锣去了德国。他们隐居在巴伐利亚的小镇里,屋前是高山,屋后是森林,每天光着脚到森林里散步、唱歌。
老锣继续给她写歌,龚琳娜在国外演出时唱的歌,大多数都是丈夫为她量身定做的。他们经常唱起歌来,有时候在大街上,也旁若无人地大声歌唱。
后来老锣就当爸爸了。得知龚琳娜怀孕的那天,这个德国男人像个孩子似的逢人便说,“我要当爸爸了!”生儿子那天,老锣一直守在龚琳娜的床前。
之后,除了喂奶是龚琳娜必须做以外,其余照顾孩子的活儿老锣就揽在他一个人身上了,比如冲奶粉,换尿片,他从来没喊过一声累。
等到第二个孩子出生的时候,老锣的育儿经验就更丰富了。两个儿子也遗传了爸妈的音乐基因,很有音乐天分。一家人经常在家里围着麦克风疯狂地演唱,这一家四口完全可以办一场精彩纷呈的音乐会了,谁都可以是主角。
回国发展
一次,龚琳娜在葡萄牙里斯本与吉他大师塞诺合作演出,唱了《圪梁梁》《好花红》《桃花红杏花白》等中国民歌,演唱主题曲《相思染》时,观众们都被感动了,台下掌声雷动。
龚琳娜说,每次音乐会她都唱得十分尽兴。在老锣的影响下,她回归到享受歌唱的快乐,可以尝试不同的唱法。旅居欧洲时,她举办过60多场专场音乐会,几乎每次都很成功。对一个中国音乐人来说,这非常不容易。
2006年,老锣即兴为龚琳娜创作了《忐忑》。该曲子全长3分45秒,以笙、笛、提琴、扬琴等乐器伴奏,应用戏曲锣鼓作为唱词,融合老旦、须生、花旦等唱腔的多种音色,在快节奏中来回变换,歌词深奥难懂。
没想到,这首歌很快在中国红了。2010年5月,龚琳娜听说《忐忑》在大学生们最爱的校内网上风传,但因为只是校园流行,她并没太在意。9月的一天,龚琳娜收到了朋友的电子邮件,里面附送的链接是——“龚琳娜神人神曲”。一听,正是她那首《忐忑》。原来,通过微博、论坛、贴吧等各种网络力量,大家已经把《忐忑》从艺术歌曲拽回到草根,并使它成为2010年最红的网络歌曲!
“有趣的是,王菲说这首歌激起了她强烈的翻唱欲”。此话一出,瞬间引发了网友的热烈回应,在天后复出的演唱会上听到这首网络神曲,其神奇效果一定不会低于宋祖英在春晚上和周杰伦翻唱《辣妹子》那次。
本来就想回国发展的龚琳娜,乘着《忐忑》爆红的东风,于2010年10月举家回国定居。此时,她已经离别祖国整整8年了。出乎意料的是,她一落地就被各种演出邀请包围。
《忐忑》获欧洲举办的“聆听世界音乐”最佳作品演唱大奖后,2010年12月1日,龚琳娜又带着她的这首“神曲”空降美国格莱美,现场一度爆棚,连续3周蝉联格莱美最佳音乐奖。
在2011年2月17日湖南卫视举办的元宵晚会上,赵本山弟子丫蛋翻唱的《忐忑》,赢得一片喝彩。“老人方队”用它的曲子翻唱的《浏阳河》,更是令全国观众拍案叫绝。而最“给力”的是,当天龚琳娜在湖南卫视唱的《丢丢铜》,再次让人们“惊艳”。
由于《丢丢铜》完全贴上了龚琳娜的个人标签,以至于有外国朋友感慨:“太神奇了,我真的分辨不出,是来自德国的中国民歌,还是来自中国的德国山谣!”很快,它又成为新的“神曲”教材,在网上得到了疯狂传播。

36-year-old Gong Linna came to internet fame in late 2010 when her song called Tan Te (Perturbed) attracted wide attention of the Chinese cyberspace. The wacky song, composed by her German husband Robert Zollitsch, sounds partially like an etude for violin fingers skill practice with Chinese characteristics and a meaningless flow of words. It has thrilled millions of pop song listeners across China. For a while, many entertainers paid respects to her by imitating the jaw-dropping number.
Gong had made her national fame long before she grabbed the attention of the Chinese netizens. In 2000, she won a silver prize at the 9th CCTV Singing Competition for Young Singers.
Gong was born in 1975 in Guiyang, the capital city of mountainous Guizhou Province in southwestern China. She dreamed of being a professional singer before she was old enough to go to school. Guizhou Province is home to some ethnic minorities who are famous for their unique passion for singing. From the time she was five years old on, she learned to sing some local folk songs. Her first overseas experience took place when she was 12. That year, she went to France and sang some local folk songs to French audiences. At 16, she entered the affiliated middle school of the Central Conservatory of Music and three years later she graduated to the academy. In 1999 she graduated from the academy with top honors.
After winning the silver prize, she found a lot of offers to sing at various galas and celebrations. During that time, lip-synching was a must for these high-profiled performances. All the singers got their songs recorded before the show and then all they needed to do on the stage was singing soundlessly in synchronization with the replaying of the recorded voice.
This kind of singing disgusted her. During such a fake singing show in 2002, she suddenly felt the lip-synching was totally unbearable. She thought she was sinning against honesty and doing an unforgivable crime to the audience.
She decided not to lip-synch any more. For this reason, she declined all kinds of offer to sing on such occasions. It was also in 2002 that she attended a show by Robert Zollitsch in Beijing. Gong found herself fascinated by the singer who was totally lost in his own singing. After the show, Gong went backstage to see the man. Unexpectedly, Gong found the man speak Chinese!
The meeting between the two proved to be a turning point of Gong Linna’s life and career. Gong and Zollitsch (He is known as Lao Luo to Chinese) began to see each other again and again. The first musical experiment between the two started when Gong improvised a song in the style of the Miao ethnic people. Zollitsch was amazed by Gong’s capability to sing and improvise.
By rediscovering the pleasure of singing, Gong thought she discovered her singing identity. Now she realized that she hadn’t had the slightest idea what music should be though she had studied singing and sung for so many years. She thought her professional singing has been something artificially created, conditioned and shaped by her vocal teachers at the academy and professional recording technicians at recording studios.
As they knew each other better, they talked more and they talked more seriously about music and their understanding. And she began to examine her way of singing and the general situation of singing in China and the singing as it was taught in and out of music schools across the country. She believed that some arias for music competition emphasized techniques but ignored the dynamism and essence of singing as an art.
In the summer 2002 she went back to her home province and stayed in a remote village where Miao ethnic people lived. To her surprise, singing was a way of life there. The young people sang to each other for romance. Children would sing with her after school in the afternoon. A granny barefoot on her way to the family pigsty to feed the family pigs wouldsing. And people would sing when they enjoyed drinking at kitchen table.
In September 2002, Robert Zollitsch invited Gong Linna to attend a music festival in Germany. To her surprise, Gong found that Zollitsch was the chairman of the music festival. At Zollitsch’s invitation, Gong sang a song to her heart. After the two were back in China, they organized a band of five. They called it “Wu Xing” (Five Elements).
Robert Zollitsch is by no means an ordinary musician. Ten years senior, he started learning to play the Bavarian zither at the age of ten. In 1988 he entered Berlin Conservatory of Music as a composition major. In 1993 he came to China to study the ancient Chinese Qin, a seven-stringed plucked instrument that originated thousands years ago. In 1997 he visited Tibet twice and made a record of Tibetan folk songs, which was published in Great Britain. Since 2000, he has been the chairman of a world music festival in Germany. He has held numerous performances and solo concerts.
In the winter of 2002, Five Elements held concerts in Germany. Their performances caused repercussions in the country. Gong Linna and Robert Zollitsch fell in love that winter. In 2004, they got married in Guizhou. Robert Zollitsch’s parents and about 30 relatives and friends came to attend the wedding in Guizhou. In 2005, the couple left China and settled down in Bavaria where Gong Linna gave birth to two sons.
Gong Linna spent altogether eight years living in Germany and visiting many other countries. In all the concerts where she gave performances, she sang in Chinese styles. Most of the songs she sang were composed by her husband. She held more than 60 concerts across Europe and almost all of them were successes. At one concert held in Lisbon, Portuguese, Gong sang to the accompaniment of the twelve-stringed Portuguese Guitar master Antonio Chainho. The Chinese folksongs she sang touched the heartstring of the audience. It was a resounding success.
Tan Te (Perturbed) was a song composed by Robert Zollitsch for fun in 2006. The 3-minute-45-second-long impulsive inspiration was designed to be a funny interlude for a 90-minute solo concert. Zollitsch composed it in a playful mindset. Then the song found its way to China. In May 2010, Gong first learned that it spread fast across college campuses in China. In September 2010, she received an email from a friend. The link attached led her to a website where she heard herself singing Tan Te. The art song enjoyed tremendous popularity with Chinese netizens and was considered the most popular song on the Internet of 2010.
On the strength of her newly found popularity in China, Gong and her husband and two sons moved back to China in October 2010. As soon as she was back in China, invitations and offers to sing and appear on television flooded in. She held two concerts in Wuhan and Tianjin first. Then she appeared in New Year’s Day celebrations in Hunan Television and Shandong Television. And then she appeared in a Spring Festival gala at Beijing Television.
This is only the beginning. With her fame firmly established with Tan Te, she has the opportunity to sing her songs in her own voice to her heart’s content.

本来就想回国发展的龚琳娜,乘着《忐忑》爆红的东风,于2010年10月举家回国定居。此时,她已经离别祖国整整8年了。出乎意料的是,她一落地就被各种演出邀请包围。
《忐忑》获欧洲举办的“聆听世界音乐”最佳作品演唱大奖后,2010年12月1日,龚琳娜又带着她的这首“神曲”空降美国格莱美,现场一度爆棚,连续3周蝉联格莱美最佳音乐奖。
在2011年2月17日湖南卫视举办的元宵晚会上,赵本山弟子丫蛋翻唱的《忐忑》,赢得一片喝彩。“老人方队”用它的曲子翻唱的《浏阳河》,更是令全国观众拍案叫绝。而最“给力”的是,当天龚琳娜在湖南卫视唱的《丢丢铜》,再次让人们“惊艳”。
由于《丢丢铜》完全贴上了龚琳娜的个人标签,以至于有外国朋友感慨:“太神奇了,我真的分辨不出,是来自德国的中国民歌,还是来自中国的德国山谣!”很快,它又成为新的“神曲”教材,在网上得到了疯狂传播。

36-year-old Gong Linna came to internet fame in late 2010 when her song called Tan Te (Perturbed) attracted wide attention of the Chinese cyberspace. The wacky song, composed by her German husband Robert Zollitsch, sounds partially like an etude for violin fingers skill practice with Chinese characteristics and a meaningless flow of words. It has thrilled millions of pop song listeners across China. For a while, many entertainers paid respects to her by imitating the jaw-dropping number.
Gong had made her national fame long before she grabbed the attention of the Chinese netizens. In 2000, she won a silver prize at the 9th CCTV Singing Competition for Young Singers.
Gong was born in 1975 in Guiyang, the capital city of mountainous Guizhou Province in southwestern China. She dreamed of being a professional singer before she was old enough to go to school. Guizhou Province is home to some ethnic minorities who are famous for their unique passion for singing. From the time she was five years old on, she learned to sing some local folk songs. Her first overseas experience took place when she was 12. That year, she went to France and sang some local folk songs to French audiences. At 16, she entered the affiliated middle school of the Central Conservatory of Music and three years later she graduated to the academy. In 1999 she graduated from the academy with top honors.
After winning the silver prize, she found a lot of offers to sing at various galas and celebrations. During that time, lip-synching was a must for these high-profiled performances. All the singers got their songs recorded before the show and then all they needed to do on the stage was singing soundlessly in synchronization with the replaying of the recorded voice.
This kind of singing disgusted her. During such a fake singing show in 2002, she suddenly felt the lip-synching was totally unbearable. She thought she was sinning against honesty and doing an unforgivable crime to the audience.
She decided not to lip-synch any more. For this reason, she declined all kinds of offer to sing on such occasions. It was also in 2002 that she attended a show by Robert Zollitsch in Beijing. Gong found herself fascinated by the singer who was totally lost in his own singing. After the show, Gong went backstage to see the man. Unexpectedly, Gong found the man speak Chinese!
The meeting between the two proved to be a turning point of Gong Linna’s life and career. Gong and Zollitsch (He is known as Lao Luo to Chinese) began to see each other again and again. The first musical experiment between the two started when Gong improvised a song in the style of the Miao ethnic people. Zollitsch was amazed by Gong’s capability to sing and improvise.
By rediscovering the pleasure of singing, Gong thought she discovered her singing identity. Now she realized that she hadn’t had the slightest idea what music should be though she had studied singing and sung for so many years. She thought her professional singing has been something artificially created, conditioned and shaped by her vocal teachers at the academy and professional recording technicians at recording studios.
As they knew each other better, they talked more and they talked more seriously about music and their understanding. And she began to examine her way of singing and the general situation of singing in China and the singing as it was taught in and out of music schools across the country. She believed that some arias for music competition emphasized techniques but ignored the dynamism and essence of singing as an art.
In the summer 2002 she went back to her home province and stayed in a remote village where Miao ethnic people lived. To her surprise, singing was a way of life there. The young people sang to each other for romance. Children would sing with her after school in the afternoon. A granny barefoot on her way to the family pigsty to feed the family pigs wouldsing. And people would sing when they enjoyed drinking at kitchen table.
In September 2002, Robert Zollitsch invited Gong Linna to attend a music festival in Germany. To her surprise, Gong found that Zollitsch was the chairman of the music festival. At Zollitsch’s invitation, Gong sang a song to her heart. After the two were back in China, they organized a band of five. They called it “Wu Xing” (Five Elements).
Robert Zollitsch is by no means an ordinary musician. Ten years senior, he started learning to play the Bavarian zither at the age of ten. In 1988 he entered Berlin Conservatory of Music as a composition major. In 1993 he came to China to study the ancient Chinese Qin, a seven-stringed plucked instrument that originated thousands years ago. In 1997 he visited Tibet twice and made a record of Tibetan folk songs, which was published in Great Britain. Since 2000, he has been the chairman of a world music festival in Germany. He has held numerous performances and solo concerts.
In the winter of 2002, Five Elements held concerts in Germany. Their performances caused repercussions in the country. Gong Linna and Robert Zollitsch fell in love that winter. In 2004, they got married in Guizhou. Robert Zollitsch’s parents and about 30 relatives and friends came to attend the wedding in Guizhou. In 2005, the couple left China and settled down in Bavaria where Gong Linna gave birth to two sons.
Gong Linna spent altogether eight years living in Germany and visiting many other countries. In all the concerts where she gave performances, she sang in Chinese styles. Most of the songs she sang were composed by her husband. She held more than 60 concerts across Europe and almost all of them were successes. At one concert held in Lisbon, Portuguese, Gong sang to the accompaniment of the twelve-stringed Portuguese Guitar master Antonio Chainho. The Chinese folksongs she sang touched the heartstring of the audience. It was a resounding success.
Tan Te (Perturbed) was a song composed by Robert Zollitsch for fun in 2006. The 3-minute-45-second-long impulsive inspiration was designed to be a funny interlude for a 90-minute solo concert. Zollitsch composed it in a playful mindset. Then the song found its way to China. In May 2010, Gong first learned that it spread fast across college campuses in China. In September 2010, she received an email from a friend. The link attached led her to a website where she heard herself singing Tan Te. The art song enjoyed tremendous popularity with Chinese netizens and was considered the most popular song on the Internet of 2010.
On the strength of her newly found popularity in China, Gong and her husband and two sons moved back to China in October 2010. As soon as she was back in China, invitations and offers to sing and appear on television flooded in. She held two concerts in Wuhan and Tianjin first. Then she appeared in New Year’s Day celebrations in Hunan Television and Shandong Television. And then she appeared in a Spring Festival gala at Beijing Television.
This is only the beginning. With her fame firmly established with Tan Te, she has the opportunity to sing her songs in her own voice to her heart’s content.
