海瑞(1514～1587),海南琼山府城人,明代杰出的政治家,著名清官。 为了纪念乡贤,弘扬海瑞精神,1990年当地政府决定在海瑞出生地,将早已毁废的海瑞故居重建。 因原故居已荡然无存,现仅在原故居附近划出一矩形用地,东西长47米,南北宽30米,计1410平方米。南面为大片民居,西面为民间自建的海公庙,西为菜地,北距干道约50米,干道外原有海公塘,现已并入人工湖,重建的海瑞故居座南朝北,视野开阔。 因进深仅30米,与当地传统民居往纵深布局的形式相悖,只好先将用地分为西边30米宽和东边17米宽的两大块。西块为故居,包括大门、正堂、后进、厢房、花厅、书斋、连廊等,共计517平方米,还有六处小庭院与一眼水井;东块为陈列室、凉亭及大庭院,陈列室原设计为一层,动工前改为三层,面积459平方米,东、西两部份由花厅门廊的端墙开拱门连通。

West Block is the former residence, including the main entrance, the main hall, the rear entrance, the wing room, the flower hall, the study building, the corridor, etc., a total of 517 square meters, there are six small courtyards and a water well; the east block is a showroom, a pavilion and a large courtyard, a showroom The original design was a storey.
