当代先锋戏剧是当代戏剧史的一个重要组成部分,也是当代艺术的一部分。当代先锋戏剧与观念艺术之间,作为两种不同的综合性艺术形式,都受到当代的先锋思潮影响,具有同样的当代艺术和先锋艺术特征,具有当代观念意识。艺术形式和媒材的应用广泛而多元,在空间应用、艺术形式、观念意识等方面,有较多的跨界和共通之处,并相互影响、相互作用。观念艺术和当代先锋戏剧在发展中的跨界融合,是艺术发展的必然,在跨界中戏剧可以是观念艺术的一种表达形式和媒体,成为观念表达的舞台和手段,丰富和扩展了观念艺术的宽度;而观念艺术则是先锋戏剧的价值和目的之一,表达出戏剧需要表述的观念和意义(内涵),延伸了戏剧的深度。坚持先锋禀性,迈向深度性与文化性,成为观念艺术和先锋戏剧发展的共同取向。
