The Pearl River Delta is a unique and extremely complicated ecological system remarkably influenced by runoff. Investigation data obtained in March of 1987 were studied and used to calculate the transformation rate of carbon , the transformation coefficients of river water and sea water , and the flux coefficient of carbon in the reservoirs in the three estuarine bays (Lingdingyang , Modaomen and Yamen) of the Pearl River .
