莆仙戏《状元与乞丐》的布景设计(设计者潘子龙)新颖、简练,在舞台演出中创造了新的风格。设计者在中景部位巧妙地运用了四条白色纱幕,贯串于每一场中,结合前景的景物和灯光的配合,不仅变化出各自不同的场景,而且在前景与背景之间,也起了衔接作用,使内景与外景风格统一,在统一中又富于变化。例如“周岁算命”这场景,纱幕吊成弧形的对称,实际上起到了蝴蝶幕的作用。两旁点缀一对大红宫灯,与前景那富于地方色彩的木结构
