1946年春,骆宾基在重庆应聘去陶行知、李公朴主持的社会大学任教,不久,得知母亲与大妹从东北南下寻他途中被困徐州,心急如焚,想前往解救。当时,从西南去华东交通拥塞不堪,想购得一张机票需用厚礼打通关口,而骆宾基一贫如洗,无奈,只好去找知名的东北籍爱国民主人士周鲸文借现款几万元,乘火车由重庆出发,过秦岭,经宝鸡奔河南,再去徐州。周鲸文生于1907年,辽宁锦县人,早年曾先后在日本早稻田大学、美国密西根大学和英国伦敦大学读书;“九一八”后,曾在北平、天津发起组织“东北民众自救会”,出版刊物《自救》;1936年曾出任东北大学秘书
