首都博物馆作为地方性综合博物馆,承担着收藏、研究、展示北京地区历史文化的重任。2001年首都博物馆文物征集部成立,围绕着“要把首都博物馆建设成为与首都地位相称,达到国际先进、国内一流的博物馆”建馆方针,征集部不仅加大征集对具有重要影响力和历史文化价值的精品文物的力度,而且转变过去只关注古代文物征集的传统思维,认为今天发生的一切都将会成为历史,都将会成为过去。研究今天刚刚发生过的历史事件,相信在不久的将来,这种努力就将会凸显出它的价值和重
