指历代由私宅、家塾出资或主持刊刻的书籍,又简称私刻本。私宅刻本与坊刻本有很大的不同,书坊刊刻图书,主要是为了牟利。所以为了市场需求,刻意迎合时尚,成了坊刻本的一大特色。而私宅刻本则是多出于对圣贤、先辈、师友的崇尚,并不以盈利为主要目的,其主旨是为了宣扬某种思想或学说,有时也出于传布某些图书罕见稀缺的版本。由于这种版本的图书,一般校勘精审、刻印精良,书籍的品相也非常讲究,所以历来颇受藏书家的青睐。如宋黄善夫家塾之敬室刻印的《史记》、宋蔡梦弼东塾
