Tagore is a famous Indian writer and the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Lu Xun is the greatest writer in modern China and also known as the “national soul” of modern China. Both Lu Xun and Tagore were rooted in the soil of oriental culture, boarded the highest peak of oriental literature and brought tremendous influence to world literature. As two literary giants who are oriental nationalities, Lu Xun and Tagore not only have a broad and far-reaching influence among readers of China and India, but they are also symbols of the cultural exchanges between China and India. In 1924, Tagore visited China, setting off a “Tagore-hot” at the time. Lu Xun attended the 64th birthday celebration for Tagore and watched the English drama “Zitra”. Two cultural giants from different countries were able to meet. Since then, Lu Xun has talked about Tagore on many occasions. According to incomplete statistics, Lu Xun talked about Tagore at least fourteen times in the article, showing that they are in a spiritual connection. On June 14, 2016, the “Lu Xun and Tagore: Dialogue Over Time and Space”, sponsored by the Lu Xun Cultural Foundation and hosted by Shaoxing College of Arts and Sciences, was held ceremoniously at the Shaoxing University of Arts and Sciences, hometown of Mr. Lu Xun. The gathering of later generations of Tagore and Lu Xun’s two great men as well as the literary research experts of China and India at the Shaoxing Liberal Arts and Sciences College at the hometown of Lu Xun coincided with the resumption of the dialogue that Talgoel had not had during the meeting with Lu Xun. I believe this “Master Dialogue ” not only allows us to further understand the connection between Lu Xun and Tagore’s mind, but also further recognizes the contemporary value of Lu Xun and Tagore’s cultural heritage. At the same time, this “master dialogue” will not only continue the cultural exchanges between the two writers up to today, but also deepen the literature and cultural exchanges between China and India.
