The short story “Rain and Snow” is a piece of work with the theme of middle-aged intellectual life. The novel only wrote a day in the daily life of the female doctor Olga Nikolaevna. The plot seems insignificant, but the author shows her the pursuit and distress of ordinary Soviet women with delicate style and moving scenes. Vividly portrays the image of an ordinary Soviet intellectual who is loyal, dedicated and conscientious as the pediatrician Olga. While trying hard to show the beautiful soul of the female doctor, the author touches upon the ugly soul of some upper-class people. Works of plain language, the content is realistic, the writer is good at life details from the start to show the inner world of characters, lyric and humorous tone, leaving a deep impression. This novel more truly reflects one aspect of Soviet intellectual life and may arouse readers’ interest and thinking.
