凤凰山铁矿在解放前被认为是无多大远景的矿床,在成因上亦大致有接触变质型及热液交代型两种看法.1955年后,807队对该铁矿进行了正确的地质勘探工作.三年来的工作证实凤凰山铁矿储量已大大超过前人的估计,是一个中型的矿床.特别值得提出的是它的成因特点,在长江下游各个热液交代型铁矿中具有典型的代表性.如形状规则,产状稳定,矿体延斜深发展很大(已在一条勘探线上用工程控制达1100公尺以上,超过走向延长的二分之一),组分特殊等.在这篇文章里,作者准备就现有资料加以综合整理研究,对该矿床成因特点及今后找矿勘探问题提出一些探讨性的意见.
