This article analyzes how Atwood rewritten the Homeric “Odyssey.” To highlight the importance of discourse, Atwood used a narrative method of two-line narrative. Penelope "is composed of Penelope’s soliloquy and chorus of maids (choral lyrics). The author uses a counter-attack tactic to either juxtapose Odysseus’s great act with Penelope’s judgment in a tacit understanding of each other; or let Penelope conceive of himself as a moral model as a result of camouflage, The purpose is to survive better. Atwood’s purpose is not merely to rewrite male authoritative texts, but to simply replace female narratives. The author is more concerned about the importance of how to present the right to speak. To this end, the novel inserts another group of voices - maids chorus lyrics. Choir lyrics and Penelope’s soliloquy and Homer’s poems not only form intertextuality but also form a dialogue, which successfully shows that grasping the right to speak means grasping the power.
