目前,在国外许多国家的矿山中,多已采用独立回转凿岩机,逐步取代螺旋棒式转钎机构的凿岩机。它在矿山的回采和掘进作业中与凿岩台车配套使用,大大地提高了凿岩速度和凿岩的台班效率。螺旋棒回转式凿岩机的冲击和回转运动均由活塞来完成,冲击功和扭矩较小,而且转钎机构的一些零件,如棘轮、棘爪、弹簧、螺旋母等,极易磨损,零件消耗较大。同时由于螺旋棒螺旋角和活塞每分钟的冲击次数的限制,不能调整钎杆转速,因之对于各种不同类型的岩石也不能很好地适应。而且对于处理夹钎事故也很困难,在钻凿节理较多的岩石时更为不利。
