At present, due to the increase of the rolling stock, the increase of the demand of the rolls and the lack of the production capacity of the rolls, the surfacing welding is more and more widely used to repair the rolls in the Soviet Union and abroad. The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of weld metal anisotropy on the workability of 9XФ steel backup rolls and to develop a remediation plan suitable for the 2000 mm Hot Rolling Mill for the new Lipetsk Steel based on the results obtained.
