玄学派出现于英国文坛是在17世纪初期,以将知性的超然和热烈的情感融合在一起的独特特色而著称于世。玄学派的诗歌具有夸张、意象化的特点,对于其来源于生活的基石而言,是大胆甚至刻意模糊与现实的联系,使读者在阅读过程中具有丰富的想象空间。纵然玄学派的诗歌夸张、隐喻多变,但它还是来自于生活。由诗人通过自己的创造力和想象力,将不相关的意象编织起来,形成他们所欲表达的思想;玄学派诗歌还具有语言简洁、口语化的特征。玄学派诗歌的特点也决定了玄学诗歌的创造力和想象力的丰富程度。多恩·约翰是英国玄学派诗人中的佼佼者。
