文章认为，只有那些具有正确的思想倾向、严密的科学性，关注社会进步和人民利益的社会科学才能够转化成先进的社会生产力，才能够成为中国先进文化的一部分。回顾过去，新时期我国的社科理论界成就显著：继承和发展了中国先进的思想文化，为人类文明的发展作出了贡献；为多元化的社会提供了正确的思想导向，保证了中国社会稳定协调发展；不断探索社会主义市场经济的发展规律，为改革开放提供了决策参考和对策思路。同时，我们的社科界也存在着一些问题，诸如思想混乱、学风浮躁、理论缺乏创新等。分析其原因，主要在于：全球化的冲击，多元化的挑战，社科工作者政治和业务素质不能适应形势发展的要求。当前要贯彻“三个代表”精神，繁荣发展社会科学，就要加强思想建设，加强学风建设，加强队伍建设，加强制度建设，全面改进社科工作。
The article holds that only those social sciences with correct ideological tendencies, rigorous science, social progress and people’s interest can be transformed into advanced social productive forces and become part of China’s advanced culture. In retrospect, in the new era, the achievements made by our country’s social science theorists have been remarkable. They have inherited and developed China’s advanced ideology and culture and made contributions to the development of human civilization.
