畲族,主要生活在我国东南的浙、赣、皖、粤四省区。广东畲族人口约占全国人口总数的0.2％,其中约2/3居住在潮安县、丰顺县境内的凤凰山区,其余约1/3散居在海丰、惠来两县的莲花山区和博罗县、增城市的罗浮山区,是广东省人口最少的少数民族。尽管人口少,居住分散,但据浙、赣、皖三省畲族小心保存至今的族谱和口头吟唱的山歌,他们一致认为广东潮安的凤凰山,是其祖先的发源地。在记述畲民族来源和迁徙经过的手抄歌本《高皇歌》中,便有“广东路上有祖坟”的内容。
