Small things to Sara Shih are big things. Well-known for its work on the United States at the Venice Biennale in 2013, known as Sara Shih’s massive gravity-gravitational device, she uses the objects that can be found in modern life and nature to represent the ever-changing galaxy. She dropped the hanging plastic, the broken car, the sloping ladder and the scattered pebbles by welding, gluing and using a cantilever to lift it high to try to catch the fragile universe. Shi’s work illustrates topics that are finite and infinite, true and fleeting, secular and sublime, time and timeless. She has not had any censure as a minimalist artist.
