在我国最早的一所图书馆专业学校是“武昌私立文华图书馆学专科学校”。这所学校奉命在1926年6月8日做第一次招生。招生地点指定在北京、上海、南京、汉口、广州等五处,招生数共25名,而且由“中华教育文化基金董事会”拨出助学金,使这25名报考合格者免费入学。在当时对考生的入学条件要求很高,第一要品学兼优,第二文化程度要大专毕业以上,还要有大专毕业证书或本科二年肄业证书做为验证。由于入学条件较高,所以招生数都无法完成,比方第二届的招生数是25名,通过考试只录取了12名。 入学后课程设置有分类法,编目法,中西文参考法,中西文目录学,图书馆经营法,图书馆行政,图书馆选择法及现代史料工作、打字技术,最后还有毕业实习。
