The skateboard used when the Shinkansen started operation in 1964 was an initial skateboard called the NT-3 iron-based sintered alloy. The reason why it is called an initial skateboard is because the sliding conductor used as a matching material is made of pure copper. Therefore, it is not necessary to use hard materials such as iron, so that the development of copper skateboards has a lifespan of about 7000km. After the improvement and development, developed two kinds of commonly used skateboards. One is to improve NT-3 M39, the other is a copper-based sintered alloy K16, BC16. M39 features: Nickel, molybdenum added to reinforce the substrate; Lead impregnated for lubricity. The K16, BC16 add hard metal chromium to improve its wear resistance, add lead to improve its lubricating properties. In these long-term operation tests, these skateboards found that the iron skateboarding ratio was 50:50
