毛主席指出:“在人类的认识史中,从来就有关于宇宙发展法则的两种见解,一种是形而上学的见解,一种是辩证法的见解,形成了互相对立的两种宇宙观.”人类关于地球、地球的各个层圈以及矿物与岩石的认识,来源很久.随着生产活动的扩大和深入,人们的地质认识不断积累,在实践的检验中有所扬弃,逐渐地形成了地质学这个学科及其分支.地质学的产生和发展过程,同样反映了关于地质现象,地质作用以及一系列有关问题的两种见解、两种宇宙观的对立.从这个意义上研究和把握作为一门科学的地质学的历史,对于我们学习与运用唯物辩证法,开展学科领域的学术批判,继承前人的正确思想,促进地质学科的繁荣和发展,都是有意义的.按照这个想法,本刊试办《地质学史话》栏地,不求系统地、全面地去讲解地质学史,而是从现有资料的整理介绍开始,打算逐步地组织安排一系列的文章,不拘篇幅大小,不限国内外,凡涉及地质学发展史的,都包括在内,切望广大读者和有关单位通过批评建议、提供史料、撰写稿件等多种方式,给予支持.
