In order to study the axial compression properties of cold-formed short columns of oval steel tubes, the short columns of oval steel tubes of fast-filled and light-filled concrete are respectively tested to analyze the material properties of the oval steel tubes and lightweight aggregate concrete Loading capacity of column specimen, failure mode, ductility and so on. The results show that the short columns of cold drawn oval tubular steel show lower bearing capacity and ductility than the hot rolled steel bar of base metal. The lightweight aggregate concrete can significantly improve the bearing capacity and ductility of the specimens. The shortening of column and the filling of concrete filled the concrete with short columns, the increase of axial compressive bearing capacity and ductility of the short columns of circular steel tube is large, and the increase of axial compressive bearing capacity and ductility of the specimens with small wall thickness is large (about 10%). According to the comparison between the calculation results and the standard calculation results, the existing calculation method for the bearing capacity of short columns of heat-treated oval tubular steel can be used to calculate the bearing capacity of cold-formed short steel columns. EC4 can accurately estimate the bearing capacity of concrete-filled circular steel tube specimens. China CECS 28: 2012 Technical specification of CFST structure is suitable for calculation of axial compressive bearing capacity of cold-formed CFST short columns with small wall thickness. Calculation method of axial compressive bearing capacity of CFST short columns with larger wall thickness is to be further studied.
