(A) In the history of sports in Asia, Manila has a glorious page. It was the birthplace of the Far East Games, the predecessor of the Asian Games. In 1913, the prelude to the rise of Asian sports was opened here. Manila made an indelible contribution to the spread and development of early Asian sport. Manila, the capital of the Philippines, is located on the banks of the Manila Bay on both banks of the island of Luzon. It crosses the banks of the Bashi River and covers an area of 383,000 square meters with a population of 1.03 million (1980).
