川剧《马克白夫人》以写意性将莎士比亚悲剧《麦克白》改编为以“马克白夫人”为主角的川剧折子戏《马克白夫人》。《马克白夫人》在川剧的唱、念、做、打程式中,不仅充分挖掘、外化了马克白夫人杀人前后的心理特征,而且通过改编把马克白的心理特征拼贴在马克白夫人的表演中,二者的心思、心理、行动合二为一,在浓郁的诗意表演中,以角色的意识流动为线索,在叙述媒介的多样性的基础上,充分体现出人物的心理变态。川剧《马克白夫人》以“诗意”的川剧审美形式演绎了莎士比亚的悲剧《麦克白》,而《麦克白》则借助于唱腔和表演的诗意展现了人物性格、心理、行动和情感。将川剧的唱腔、表演之美拼贴入莎剧的情节之中,使川剧《马克白夫人》成为一部具有浓厚诗意特征,现代性与后现代性相交织的写意莎剧。
