GM and Alvin Titanium Products have teamed up to develop a titanium automotive exhaust system that has been used for the first time on the mass-produced Chevrolet Corvette Z06 sedan. This titanium exhaust system is 40% lighter than stainless steel, making the Z06 sedan faster, more stable and with shorter braking distances. Light-weight titanium automotive parts not only improve fuel economy, but also 100% of the recycling, in addition to acid and salt. Alvin has successfully modified its existing stainless steel parts manufacturing process for the manufacture of titanium parts. A titanium muffler and tailpipe assembly of 12 kg mass replaced a stainless steel exhaust system of 20 kg mass.
