Data line encryption may be necessary in the future to provide adequate protection for some communication systems. For data line encryption, it is attractive to choose a public key cryptography (PKC) that excludes key distribution problems, however, PKC slows and brings significant delays to the system. The experimental data line encryption system described herein is a hybrid system that uses PKC to give an initial value to an ordinary cryptographic system based on Data Encryption Standard (DES).
