国际地质大会是国际地质科学联合会发起的,全世界地质学家一种定期聚会活动。按规定每4年举行一次。会议的主要内容是交流上届大会以来地质科学取得的新进展,同时商定下届大会主办国及改选大会领导机构等。从1878年第一届国际地质大会召开以来,已经举办过27届大会。本届大会是第28届。由美国主办,地点在华盛顿,会期从1989年7月9日起至7月19日止。
International Geological Congress is sponsored by the International Union of Geological Sciences, geologists around the world a regular gathering. As required, every 4 years. The main content of the conference is to exchange new progresses made by the geological sciences since the last congress, and at the same time, to agree on the host country of the next congress and the re-election of the leading bodies of the congress. Since the first International Geological Congress was held in 1878, 27th General Assembly has been held. The current session is the 28th. Organized by the United States and located in Washington, the duration of the meeting will run from July 9, 1989 to July 19.
