彭山县全县32.3万人,农业人口25.7万人。2003年起,彭山县列入全省开展新型农村合作医疗制度的五个试点县(市)。自8月上旬在全县18个乡镇,189个行政村推行新型农村合作医疗制度以来,至8月31日全县已有20多万农民参加,占应参加总人数的82%,2003年9月1日起已开始对农民实施按比例报销。全县已有20多万农民告别有史以来患病吃药完全由自己承担的历史,享受“公费医疗”式的新型农村合作医疗制度带来的实惠,深受农民群众欢迎和拥护。截至月10月20日,彭山县参加的农民享受报销的人数已达18827人,累计报销金额63.2万
