转化人类主义主张通过运用基因修饰技术或生物机械工程等手段,使得人类能够超越生物性的限制以实现个体的增强——包括身体、智能和心理等能力的增强,其思想前提包括个体身份的非连续性、身体和心灵的工具化和财产化、对完美身体的追求等。通过阐明一种人格论的人本主义的观点,即人是具身的存在、是道德共同体中的成员、是具有尊严的存在,转化人类主义对人的理解被证明是自相矛盾的、非整体性的、物理主义的和脱离社会关系的。关于如何看待人、如何看待身体之于人格人的关系上,存在着客观的、规范性的认识,转化人类主义的观点与这种认识是相悖的。
