This article describes the design of a SAW bandpass filter that responds to a certain specification. In this design approach, the maximum stopband level is specified and the required passband shape can be determined by a certain maximum and minimum attenuation limits at a large number of frequency points. This is extremely beneficial for designs with filters (such as TV IF filters) that have a complex passband shape (some of the performance specifications outperform others). This design uses a non-apodized transducer and a length-weighted transducer. The latter is a two-electrode configuration, with each half-double electrode individually weighted, adding to the design flexibility. In this paper, several different shapes of filter design techniques, manufacturing methods and experimental results are introduced, this method is also extended to the nonlinear phase filter and an example is introduced.
