早在1974年,周大使就到过中国。此后在1984年又来过一次。那时,他负责的是两国在文化方面的交流。1995年,他第三次来到中国,担任瑞士驻华公使,从1999年开始,任瑞士驻华大使。周大使说:中国这20多年的变化可以说是20世纪的一件非常重大的事情。20世纪末最重要的一个现象就是中国发展,这不仅仅是一个国家的发展,而是人类1/5人口的发展。在中国近150年的历史上,这是第一次经济比较稳定发展的时期。这不仅是中国历史也是世界历史上一件重要的事情。
As early as 1974, Ambassador Zhou had been to China. Since 1984 once again. At that time, he was responsible for the cultural exchanges between the two countries. In 1995, he came to China for the third time as the Swiss ambassador to China. Since 1999, he has been the ambassador of Switzerland to China. Ambassador Zhou said that the changes in China over the past 20 years can be said to be a very significant event in the 20th century.
