香鱼通常在秋季产卵孵出,并于第二年秋季产卵后不久即死亡。每年9-10月香鱼进入性成熟期后外观转黑,肉质下降,失去了食用鱼的商品价值。为了改变这种状况,日本福冈县水产试验场运用生物工程技术培育出生长快、肉质好的三倍体香鱼。现育出此种香鱼33,000尾。比较结果表明,在8月中旬前两者生长情况基本相同;9月20日进入性成熟后,普通香鱼外观转黑且停止生长,而三倍体香鱼仍正常生长。据解剖观察,三倍体香鱼无能育力。普通香鱼在一年内死亡,而三倍体雄性香鱼可
