A multi-point wall plug (MIW-head) is located in the center of the combustion chamber and attached to the cylinder head. A new concept multi-point impact wall plug was investigated to obtain a three-dimensional diffusion jet that can improve the combustion and performance of direct injection diesel engines. In the NICS-MH engine test, four types of combustion chambers were used, that is, the ω-type combustion chamber used for direct injection diesel engines; a truncated-neck type combustion chamber; a notched neck-type combustion chamber As well as a combined neck-in combustor with bosses and indentations. Engine performance test results show that the combined necked-in combustor with bosses and notches has lower fuel consumption and harmful emissions (HC, NOx and smoke) than other NICS-MH engines. In addition, the detrimental emission densities of such combined neckboxes are also reduced compared to typical direct-injection diesel engines.
